100 Kids Who Care - Dufferin
Our mission is to bring together young people from our community to learn, engage, and make a difference. No matter how small we are and how small our funding may be, we can make a big impact in our community.
All participants are from Dufferin County (Ontario, Canada) and range from ages 5-18. 100 Kids Who Care call all youngsters to a year of gatherings where we collectively vote on and support local initiatives.
Here's how it happens:
- Children (ages 5-18) must register to become a member. Registration means you are committing to one year of meetings ($10 per meeting, 4 meetings per year - each meeting lasting about 1 hour)
- Children are encouraged to nominate a local charity/initiative/non-profit that they would like to see money go to. Nominations must be received at least 2 weeks before a gathering. 3 charities will be randomly selected from those nominated charities and will be contacted to prepare a short presentation at the gathering.
- Children attend the gathering, bringing their $10 cash with them. They hear the presentations. They vote. The money goes to the charity that receives the most votes at that gathering. $10 x 100 children = $1,000 for a local charity!

Congratulations to the Parkinsons Society of South Western Ontario who won $1,000 that will go towards research and support for families with this debilitating disease. We also had a very generous silent donor match the $1,000 donation, splitting it between Streams Community Hub and St. Vincent de Paul Society. This generous donation was prompted from the actions of the kids that came together to make a difference. |
