100 Kids Dufferin Ambassadors for 2018-2019
Ben - Ben Milone is a 14 year old student at Westside Secondary School, competitive swimmer and accomplished musician. Giving back has always been a priority to him and his family from a very young age. Being involved in the 100 Kids Who Care Dufferin has all of the things he enjoys: giving back, a local community project and working with youth. Ben and his family work with the Out of the Cold program where they make and serve a Christmas meal for 125 homeless Toronto youth. The teenagers are the same age as Ben, but due to life circumstances find themselves living on the streets. It is rewarding to know that at least one day of the year these teens receive a delicious meal and a little gift making them feel appreciated. Another highlight for Ben is when his family traveled to Herbertpur which is a small, remote and rural village in Northern India on a medical mission. It was the first time Ben saw such poverty yet despite how little they had, the community welcome their family so warmly. Ben encourages all youth to get involved with 100 Kids Who Care Dufferin as it gives kids the opportunity to start thinking about helping others. Evelyn - Evelyn Jones is a 15 year old student at Orangeville District Secondary School. She has been actively involved in our community from a very young age and is very passionate about encouraging her peers to become involved too. Evelyn was member of the Open Hands Youth Mission Team that went to a small village in Nicaragua and donated medical supplies, arts and crafts supplies for children and 10 computers for the villages local schools. The team provided Vacation Bible School programs and other activities to the children in the orphanage. They also visited the local YMCA, hospital and prison. Some other programs Evelyn has been a part of include Me to We, The Orangeville Food Bank and projects through her church, High Country United Church. Lara - Lara Hann is a 10 year old student at Island Lake Public School, competitive swimmer and singing enthusiast. She is looking forward to learning about different charities that help many people in the Orangeville area. Lara began helping charities by simply growing and cutting her hair for Pantene’s Beautiful Lengths program that assists the Canadian Cancer Societies in creating real hair wigs for women living with cancer. During the summer Lara assisted her brother with his ‘Will Swim for Food’ campaign swimming laps and counting all the food donations. Her favourite charity initiatives involve anything with food, like the Smile Cookie Campaign at Tim Hortons and Miracle Treat Day at Dairy Queen. Ryan - Ryan Hann is a 12 year old student at the Maples Academy, trumpet player and a competitive swimmer. This past summer he created the campaign ‘Will Swim for Food’ where swam 200 laps a day for 7 days for a total of 35 km to raise awareness, money and food for the Orangeville Food Bank. With the generous support of the community Ryan raised $4005 and 301 food items. Ryan was introduced to helping the community in December when he volunteered with the St. Vincent de Paul Christmas Hamper program. Ryan is excited to be an Ambassador for the 100 Kids Who Care Dufferin encouraging other youth to get involved and learn about charities in our community. Interested in becoming an ambassador?
